Coming up next, we have places three and four, the two books who narrowly missed out on the second and first spot.
Heartless by Marissa Meyer
Catherine may be one of the most desired girls in Wonderland and a favorite of the unmarried King, but her interests lie elsewhere. A talented baker, she wants to open a shop and create delectable pastries. But for her mother, such a goal is unthinkable for a woman who could be a queen. At a royal ball where Cath is expected to receive the King’s marriage proposal, she meets handsome and mysterious Jest. For the first time, she feels the pull of true attraction. At the risk of offending the King and infuriating her parents, she and Jest enter into a secret courtship. Cath is determined to choose her own destiny. But in a land thriving with magic, madness, and monsters, fate has other plans. – from Goodreads.com
This was another of my most anticipated books released this year and my goodness did it pay off! I absolutely loved reading Heartless and I have now bumped Marissa Meyer up onto my “auto-buy-authors” list. I would officially crown Meyer the Queen of Retellings if I had the permission and authority to do so!
Ruby Red (and the Precious Stone Trilogy) by Kerstin Gier
Gwyneth Shepherd’s sophisticated, beautiful cousin Charlotte has been prepared her entire life for traveling through time. But unexpectedly, it is Gwyneth, who in the middle of class takes a sudden spin to a different era! Gwyneth must now unearth the mystery of why her mother would lie about her birth date to ward off suspicion about her ability, brush up on her history, and work with Gideon–the time traveler from a similarly gifted family that passes the gene through its male line, and whose presence becomes, in time, less insufferable and more essential. Together, Gwyneth and Gideon journey through time to discover who, in the 18th century and in contemporary London, they can trust. – from Goodreads.com
This was my favourite new series that I read this year! I read Ruby Red earlier in 2016 and Sapphire Blue and Emerald Green towards the end and I also watched the movies too. I have never read anything quite like this series, and would recommend anyone and everyone to read it!
Tomorrow I’ll reveal my number two and number one favourite books of this year!
